MESSAGE FROM THE IMO SECRETARY-GENERAL ON WORLD OCEANS DAY

Marking World Oceans Day, IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Domínguez shared a video message with us in which he calls on the maritime community to commit to protecting the ocean, recognizing its potential as an essential resource for life on our planet.

“Kiorana from the shores of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. It’s very easy to see at firstand how community and the oceans becomes one. It is not just a way of life, but it’s also a lifeline.

At IMO, we take seriously our responsibility in protecting the ocean as one of the main users is the reason why we focus on enhancing a regulatory framework to reduce plastic pollution or any other type of pollution and address new ones such as underwater radiated noise and transboundary species.

On World Oceans Day, let us reimagine our relationship with the ocean. how we find the balance between what we take and what we give back.

Because we have a responsibility as a society to protect this ocean for generations to come”.
