Honduras has an 820 km coastline with a total of six ports, three of which serve as the main maritime hubs for loading and unloading goods: Puerto Cortés, Puerto Castilla, and Puerto de San Lorenzo.
Maritime and port activities are overseen by the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine.
DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF MERCHANT MARINE
The Directorate General of Merchant Marine is the maritime authority of Honduras. It is responsible for maritime safety, vessel registration, marine environmental protection, maritime traffic control, and the training and certification of Seafarers.
It operates as a decentralized entity of the Executive Branch and is attached to the Secretariat of National Defense.
