Its coastline is approximately 640 kilometers long, comprising a total of 9 ports located throughout its Coastal Region. The Coastal Region is made up of seven provinces (Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Manabí, Guayas, Santa Elena, Los Ríos, and El Oro), which feature beaches and seaside resorts that are highly attractive for tourism.
Maritime and port activity is under the responsibility of the Undersecretariat of Ports and Maritime and River Transport.

Institutional positioning and coordination with national and international stakeholders.
To promote the development of port activity and maritime and river transport through the functions carried out as the National Port and Maritime Authority, ensuring compliance with the objectives and priorities defined within the current legal framework.
To make Ecuador a regional leader in the sector, promoting economic development and ensuring the sustainable use of marine–coastal resources.
