Located in the west-central region of South America, Bolivia covers an area of 1,098,581 km², stretching from the Central Andes to the Amazon Region. Natural gas is its main source of income, and livestock production and quinoa cultivation (the second-largest producer worldwide) also stand out.
Maritime and port activities are under the responsibility of the General Directorate of Maritime, River, and Lake Interests and the Merchant Marine.
Dependiente del Ministerio de Defensa, la Dirección General de Intereses Marítimos, Fluviales, Lacustres y Marina Mercante constituye la Autoridad Marítima del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia, siendo responsable de la regulación, control y seguridad de las actividades relacionadas con la navegación, marina mercante, puertos, muelles, atracaderos el transporte acuático y actividades conexas.
Además, es responsable de promover el desarrollo de los Intereses marítimos, fluviales, lacustres y de la marina mercante, en el marco de la Constitución Política del Estado, mediante su Administración acorde a la normativa nacional, los tratados, acuerdos y convenios internacionales vigentes.
To exercise Maritime, River, and Lake Authority through the regulation, control, and supervision of all activities carried out within the State’s aquatic and port areas, in order to contribute to the protection and management of the maritime, river, and lake interests of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.
To establish themselves as promoters of the administration and development of the Maritime, River, Lake, and Merchant Marine Interests of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.
