WOMEN IN MARITIME DAY 2024

The International Day of Women in the Maritime Sector, celebrated every year on 18 May, aims to make visible and strengthen the presence of women in this sector, promoting their recruitment, retention and professional development. This date is a call to recognize the contribution of women in a sector historically dominated by men, and to promote equal opportunities and sustainable employment for women in the maritime sector.

In 2024, the commemoration focuses on the essential role women play in ensuring global maritime safety and security. It also highlights the positive shift towards greater gender inclusion in the sector, recognizing that diversity strengthens both innovation and responsiveness to the challenges facing the maritime industry.

In this context, Macarena Cladera, President of Red MAMLa, shares a special message on the occasion of the third celebration of #WomenInMaritimeDay.

“Red MAMLA celebrates Women in Maritime Day. This year, under the theme "Safe Horizons - Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety", I would like to pay special tribute to all women working in the maritime, port and related sectors.

Let us continue to work for the empowerment of women in these sectors, for equal access to education and employment opportunities, and for the elimination of discrimination and gender-based violence.

Let us continue on the path we have taken. Thank you”.
