WITH THE SLOGAN "OUR TIME HAS COME: OUR RIGHTS, OUR FUTURE" THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD IS COMMEMORATED
This 2022, the United Nations - UN, celebrates the tenth anniversary of the declaration of the International Day of the Girl Child, which was voted unanimously during the General Assembly in December 2011, where it was adopted on October 11 to recognize the unique rights and challenges faced by girls around the world, as well as to promote their empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.
According to reports released by the UN, over the past ten years, governments, policymakers and the general public have worked to create more opportunities for girls to be heard on the world stage.
Despite efforts on girls' rights, the challenges they face remain numerous, with the COVID-19 pandemic and humanitarian conflicts being aggravating issues when it comes to establishing plans and guidelines for their development.
For this year, the slogan "Our Time Has Come: Our Rights, Our Future" aims to show the world the ingenuity, creativity, tenacity and resilience that millions of girls and adolescents express every day, as well as the spirit of achievement they have demonstrated time and again when given opportunities to grow and develop.
Thus the UN calls for recognition of the great value of this generation, emphasizing that "...girls are amply prepared to move forward in the next decade. The time has come for us to be accountable to them and invest in a future that believes in their organizational capacity, their leadership and their potential".
