IN SANTOS, BRAZIL: THE THIRTIETH VERSION OF AAPA LATINO KICKS OFF
The Latin American Ports Congress (better known as AAPA LATINO), has kicked off today, November 28, its thirtieth edition in Santos, Brazil, an event that will run until November 30, 2022. AAPA Latino is convened by the Latin American Delegation of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), in strategic alliance with Santos Port Authority, in addition to the main maritime and river terminals of our continent.
Year after year, more than 600 executives, officials, industry suppliers, industry professionals and specialized media make this forum stand out as the most influential business meeting of the sector, during which projects, investments and trends at regional and global level are presented and discussed, offering a magnificent opportunity to bring together the entire maritime, port and logistics industry in one place.
On the other hand, the detailed program of lectures, has as speakers officials, experts and the most reputable executives, who will address the trends and issues that are current on the agenda of the sector.
Among the topics to be addressed during these 3 days, the panel "Investments and port projects in Latin America" stands out, where port authorities from the main countries of the region will give us a vision of the current situation of their ports and the investments planned. Among this group of experts is Elvia Bustavino, President of Red MAMLa and Deputy Administrator of the Panama Maritime Authority, who will speak about Panama's investment projects in infrastructure, technology and equipment.
Other topics to be highlighted are the following:
- Scenarios and predictions for trade, shipping and ports: Leading experts will analyze these geopolitical tensions, what are the probabilities for market recovery, and how climate change impacts in this context with its consequences on shipping and ports.

- Presentation of the Port of Barranquilla: The host of the 2023 edition of AAPA LATINO will present its port offer and tell how it is preparing to receive the international community next year.
- Maritime Transport 2030: Countdown to Close the Digital Divide: Based on the results of a study conducted by the IDB and policy recommendations, there will be a debate on what are the keys to achieve efficient and sustainable ports of the future.
- Ports on alert: Presentation of lines of action for crisis management and preventive shielding against the risks to which the sector is exposed.
- A new era for cruise shipping: Experts on the subject will share their vision on this new stage of post-pandemic cruise shipping and how ports could contribute and ensure that this business operates in a sustainable manner.
- Smart financing for strategic growth: Facing a scenario of new investments in Latin America, this panel will present strategies and options available for short, medium and long term financing for the different actors of the port and logistics industry.
- Innovative solutions for the port industry.
The main activity during the Inaugural Conference was the technical visit to Puerto Santos.
