RED MAMLa PRESENT AT THE 175th ANNIVERSARY OF DIRECTEMAR

The Directorate General of Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine, Maritime Authority of our Member State Chile, held a ceremony to commemorate its 175th anniversary. This event was attended by Elvia Bustavino, President of Red MAMLa and representing Panama in her position as Deputy Administrator of the AMP.

The ceremony was presided over by the Commander in Chief of the Navy, Admiral Juan Andrés De La Maza, and was attended by various government authorities and the various Latin American Maritime Authorities, as well as representatives of the maritime, port and logistics sector of the region.

Among the guests of honor, it is worth mentioning the presence of Arsenio Domínguez, who will hold the position of Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization for the next period 2024-2027.

The commemorative speech was made by Vice Admiral Fernando Cabrera, Director General of the Maritime Territory and Merchant Marine, who expressed his gratitude and pride for the work done by the professionals, men and women, who are serving the country by fulfilling DIRECTEMAR's mission to protect human life at sea, ensure maritime safety, and preserve the aquatic environment on Chile's coasts.

In this manner, he pointed out that "...on this new anniversary, I feel the duty to recognize the values that make up the being of the Chilean Maritime Authority, which is characterized by its dedication to a service whose demands grow in the same proportion as the maritime interests of our country expand". He also emphasized the importance of promoting maritime awareness, since "... to understand our sea is to understand a more global and interconnected world, a world of flows and interdependencies. It is to discover that because of its immeasurable and largely unknown resources, the future of the world will largely be played out in the oceans".

The ceremony ended with the presentation of recognition to all those DIRECTEMAR members who during the last period performed heroic acts, risking their lives to save the lives of others in danger.

Finally, from Red MAMLa we would like to express our sincere congratulations to the Member State Chile, for its 175 years of work as Maritime Authority.

We also extend special thanks to T2° LT Catherine Gonzalez, Liaison Officer during the anniversary activities of DIRECTEMAR, who is also Alternate Member and Director of the External Relations and International Cooperation Committee of our Organization.

Dear Catherine, thank you very much for all your effort and dedication, you are an exceptional professional and a beautiful person, being part of Red MAMLa fills us with deep pride!
