INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SEAFARERS: A JUST FUTURE FOR SEAFARERS

In the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, seafarers found themselves on the front line of the global response and subjected to difficult working conditions around uncertainty and difficulties of access to ports, resupply, crew changes, repatriation, etc. 

In these circumstances, IMO focused its message on urging governments to recognize seafarers as essential workers and to ease travel restrictions to facilitate crew changes.

Red MAMLa shows its formal support for the IMO's 2021 Campaign for Seafarers' Day, which continues to encourage governments to support seafarers during the pandemic and, in addition, extends its message to the recovery afterwards to request a worthwhile future for seafarers, such as fair treatment and working conditions (in line with the ILO's Maritime Labour Convention - MLC), fair training and safety.
