HONDURAN WOMEN ATTEND WORKSHOP ON MARPOL ANNEX VI
The Central American Commission for Maritime Transport (COCATRAM) successfully delivered a workshop on the familiarization and application of Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention, which establishes the rules to prevent air pollution from ships, in the Honduran capital. This workshop, carried out with the active participation of 14 women professionals from the maritime sector, is an important step towards strengthening technical training in the region.
Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention establishes limits and guidelines for pollutant gas emissions from ships, a key measure to protect the marine environment and human health. During the workshop, key aspects of this annex were addressed, including best practices for reducing emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other harmful substances from ship operation.
The workshop represented a valuable learning opportunity, not only to strengthen knowledge of international regulations, but also to encourage the inclusion of women in key areas of the maritime industry. This type of initiative reinforces COCATRAM's vision of generating a more equitable and environmentally responsible maritime environment and reflects the Maritime Authority's commitment to training women and contributing to the Education and Training Strategic Objective.
