FIRST HONDURAN WOMAN TO BE EMPLOYED UNDER THE SHIPPING DEPARTMENT'S TRADES

Semira Diaz Lupian, a talented Honduran cabinetmaker and upholsterer, has made history by becoming the first woman to be employed by the new Shipping Department of the Honduran Maritime Authority. This milestone occurred on January 25, 2025, a significant date because it coincides with the celebration of Honduran National Women's Day.

Diaz Lupian, who has distinguished herself for her skill and dedication in the field of carpentry, is now expanding her horizons by embarking on new professional opportunities at sea, a move that reflects not only her professional ability, but also the openness of the Honduran maritime industry to the inclusion of women in traditionally male-dominated positions.

This progress reflects Honduras' commitment to promoting gender equality and the active participation of women in key economic sectors such as shipping and the maritime industry. The Honduran Maritime Authority celebrates this achievement, highlighting the transformative role that women continue to play in different areas of work in the country, contributing to the Decent Work Strategic Goal.
