MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENCY ON THE OCCASION OF THE 8TH ANNIVERSARY OF MAMLa NETWORK
Dear Members,
Today, we celebrate eight years of our Network’s life with great emotion. These past eight years have been filled with meetings, learning opportunities, shared challenges, and, above all, a deep conviction that together, we are stronger, and that the sea is also transformed when women move forward united.
Throughout this journey, we have established genuine connections, fostered collaboration among our countries, and empowered women leaders in Latin America’s maritime sector. As we celebrate this anniversary, we are filled with greater experience, facing new challenges, and still inspired by the same energy that motivated us from day one.
The year 2025 brought us a very special achievement. For the first time, we were required to report on our work within the framework of the IMO WIMA Strategy for the 2024–2029 period, aligning it with our own five-year strategy for 2025–2029. This exercise allowed us to critically reflect on our work, identify our strengths, and recognize the gaps requiring concrete, coordinated action from our association.
This assessment led to the project that resulted in the First Regional Workshop on Gender-Responsive Policies and Legislation, which took place in Ecuador in November with the support of the IMO and its Gender Program. The observations and lessons learned from this process, drawn from the WIMA reports and strengthened by Red MAMLa’s contributions as an association, enriched our work and helped motivate adjustments to the final activity report. These adjustments reaffirmed our commitment to actively, technically, and constructively participating in the implementation of the WIMA strategy.

Red MAMLa is shared leadership. It is diversity becoming a single voice. It is the certainty that every woman who advances at sea opens the way for many more. We are charting a clear course toward a more just, inclusive, and humane maritime sector, always considering the future generations.
Thank you all for your commitment, generosity, and conviction. Thank you for believing, contributing, and continuing to navigate the seas together. The future of the maritime sector is built collectively with respect and vision.
Let us continue to conquer the oceans and leave our mark on them.
With affection and deep pride,
Macarena Cladera
President of Red MAMLa
