Its shoreline has an approximate length of 640 kilometers, with a total of 9 ports located along its Coastal Region. The Coastal Region is divided into seven provinces (Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas, Manabí, Guayas, Santa Elena, Los Ríos and El Oro) which have very attractive beaches and seaside resorts for tourism.
The maritime port activity is in the hands of the Undersecretariat of Ports and Maritime and River Transportation.

With commitment to the social and economic development of Ecuador's maritime, river and port activity, the Undersecretariat of Ports and Maritime and River Transportation regulates its actions based on 4 main axes:

Updating of the legal framework for ports and maritime and river transport.

Institutional consolidation with the modernization of structures.

Implementation of master and action plans.

Institutional positioning and coordination with national and international agents
MISSION
Promote the development of port operations and maritime and river transport, through the exercise of activities as National Port and Maritime Authority, to ensure compliance with the objectives and priorities defined in the legal framework in force.
