IN GUATEMALA: ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON WOMEN IN MARITIME DAY
On May 28, 2026, the Conference Center of the Guatemalan Ministry of National Defense hosted a roundtable discussion titled “Toward Maritime and Port Excellence” to commemorate International Women’s Day in the Maritime Sector. The event was held within the framework of the Network of Women in Latin American Maritime Authorities (Red MAMLa).
Representatives and officials from the National Defense Navy, Guatemala’s ports, and the National Port Commission attended the event, which aimed to highlight women’s contributions to the country’s maritime and port industry. The event also provided an opportunity to share experiences, strengthen dialogue, and promote greater female participation in this critical sector of national development. The event addressed the theme promoted by the International Maritime Organization: “From Policy to Practice: Promoting Gender Equality for Maritime Excellence,” which calls for efforts to encourage more women to join the maritime world.
Members of the MAMLa Network attended the event, including Guatemala’s principal and alternate representatives, an honorary member, and women in the maritime sector who have been part of the Network since its inception. Their attendance reaffirmed the regional commitment to cooperation, leadership, and support among Latin American countries and maritime institutions.
The gathering was more than just a discussion; it served as a space for inspiration and recognition of the women who continue to blaze trails and strengthen maritime excellence in Guatemala and the region.
