IMO PROMOTES FEMALE INCLUSION IN ITS SENSREC PROJECT WITH NEW AUDIOVISUAL SERIES

The International Maritime Organization (IMO), through its SENSREC Project, has launched a new video series aimed at highlighting the role of women in the ship recycling sector, emphasizing their key contribution toward building a more inclusive, safe, and sustainable industry.

SENSREC, a capacity-building initiative, supports developing countries in implementing the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, promoting policy alignment, institutional development, and the adoption of responsible technical, social, and environmental practices.

In this context, the audiovisual series—composed of three segments—addresses fundamental aspects for the modernization of the maritime sector. The first episode, “Enhancing Contribution,” highlights the impact of women in the industry. The second, “Safety and Respect,” focuses on preventing harassment and discrimination, underscoring the importance of safe work environments. Finally, “The Power of Diversity” shows how gender inclusion strengthens innovation, teamwork, and operational efficiency.

SENSREC emphasizes that greater female participation not only responds to principles of equity but also contributes to improving safety and productivity standards in the maritime sector. The initiative aims to foster dialogue and promote concrete actions that encourage more inclusive and sustainable workplaces in ship recycling.
