La privilegiada posición geográfica del Perú y sus características nos brindan diversas oportunidades para el desarrollo de actividades en el ámbito marítimo de todo el territorio (mares, ríos y lagos); con una línea de costa de 3080 km de longitud, en las costas del Perú se emplazan 62 puertos en total, de los cuales 45 son marítimos, 11 fluviales y seis lacustres. De ellos los más importantes son: Callao (centro) Paita (norte) y Matarani (sur).

Las actividades que se realizan dentro del ámbito acuático están a cargo de la Dirección General de Capitanías y Guardacostas.

DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF CAPTAINCIES AND COAST GUARD
The Directorate General of Captaincies and Coast Guard of the Peruvian Navy is the Maritime, Riverine, and Lacustrine Authority. Its mission is to regulate and ensure the safety of human life, protect the environment and its natural resources, and prevent all illegal activities, by overseeing and monitoring all activities carried out in the aquatic environment, in compliance with the law and applicable international agreements, thus contributing to national development.

The Directorate General of Captaincies and Coast Guard of the Peruvian Navy exercises Maritime, Riverine, and Lacustrine Authority.
