México

México es un país bioceánico que cuenta con una posición geográfica privilegiada en virtud de su extenso acceso al Océano Pacífico y al Golfo de México y Mar Caribe, cuenta con una Zona Económica Exclusiva que excede los 3 millones de kilómetros cuadrados, debido a su ubicación le da acceso para exploración y conservación de los recursos naturales vivos y de hidrocarburos en sus zonas marinas, además de tener un gran potencial minero para una industria futura.

En su parte continental México tiene una extensión de 11,122 km de línea costera, de los cuáles 7,828 km localizados en el Océano Pacífico y 3,294 km al Golfo de México y Mar Caribe.

De igual manera, México cuenta con 117 puertos y terminales, movilizando en el año 2020 más de 303 millones de toneladas de mercancías, además cuenta con un Sistema Nacional de Búsqueda y Rescate, integrado por un Centro Coordinador, siete Centros Regionales y 33 Estaciones Navales de Búsqueda, Rescate y Vigilancia Marítima, permitiendo atender 597 llamadas de auxilio en el año 2020.

Las funciones de la Autoridad Marítima Nacional de México, es ejecutado por diversas aéreas de la Secretaría de Marina, entre ellas la Unidad de Capitanías de Puerto y Asuntos Marítimos.

UNIT OF PORT CAPTAINCIES AND MARITIME AFFAIRS
The Unit of Port Captaincies and Maritime Affairs is responsible for directing the activities of the Port Captaincies in matters of maritime safety and security, pollution prevention, and the safeguarding of strategic areas and facilities, in accordance with national and international regulations.

To exercise the role of National Maritime Authority, ensuring the safeguarding of human life at sea, maritime and port security and protection, as well as the prevention of marine pollution from ships; serving the maritime and port community in accordance with national legislation and international treaties, in order to contribute to the country’s maritime development.

To establish a “National Maritime Authority” within the port facilities of the country—an institution formally recognized by both the national and international maritime-port community—fostering a society connected to the sea and committed to a responsible culture of compliance with national and international regulations on the prevention and safeguarding of human life at sea.

This vision seeks a maritime and port community that, in harmony with environmental preservation and supported by modernized port infrastructure, promotes the sustainable use of the nation’s maritime resources and the prosperity offered by Mexico’s maritime zones.
