Honduras posee una línea de costa de 820 km de extensión dónde se ubican un total de 6 puertos, siendo tres los principales puertos marítimos para el cargue y descargue de mercancías: Puerto Cortés, Puerto Castilla y el Puerto de San Lorenzo.
La actividad marítimo portuaria está a cargo de la Dirección General de Marina Mercante.

The Directorate General of Merchant Marine is the maritime authority of Honduras. It is responsible for maritime safety, vessel registration, marine environmental protection, maritime traffic control, and the training and certification of Seafarers.
It operates as a decentralized entity of the Executive Branch and is attached to the Secretariat of National Defense.
