The Argentine Naval Prefecture is a bicentennial police institution, integrated into the internal security system in accordance with the current legal framework.
It is the Argentine Maritime Authority par excellence, through which the State exercises Navigation Security Policing and the Security and Public Order of waters under national jurisdiction and in ports, and serves as the implementing body of international conventions related to the safety of human life at sea, and the prevention and combat of pollution caused by ships.
In addition, it performs functions in fulfillment of the country’s obligations as a Flag State, Port State, and Coastal State, for the registration of ships and the control of their safety and navigation conditions, in accordance with the laws, regulations, and relevant international agreements that assign these responsibilities.

The Argentine Naval Prefecture is an institution under the Ministry of Security of the Nation.
