Posee una costa de más de 4.000 kilómetros, en la que se ubican 38 puertos marítimos. De ellos, 12 pertenecen al ‘ámbito público y 26 privado. Dentro de América Latina, Argentina se destaca por ser uno de los países con espacios marítimos más extensos y fértiles del Hemisferio Sur. Con un alto tráfico marítimo, sus puertos movilizan un promedio anual de 100 millones de toneladas.
La actividad marítima del país está a cargo de la Prefectura Naval Argentina.
The Argentine Naval Prefecture is a bicentennial police institution, integrated into the internal security system in accordance with the current legal framework.
It is the Argentine Maritime Authority par excellence, through which the State exercises Navigation Security Policing and the Security and Public Order of waters under national jurisdiction and in ports, and serves as the implementing body of international conventions related to the safety of human life at sea, and the prevention and combat of pollution caused by ships.
In addition, it performs functions in fulfillment of the country’s obligations as a Flag State, Port State, and Coastal State, for the registration of ships and the control of their safety and navigation conditions, in accordance with the laws, regulations, and relevant international agreements that assign these responsibilities.
ORGANIZATIONAL DEPENDENCY
The Argentine Naval Prefecture is an institution under the Ministry of Security of the Nation.
The Argentine Naval Prefecture is the organization through which the National Executive Branch exercises the Navigation Safety Police Service; the Public Safety and Order Prevention Police Service; the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Conservation Police; the Judicial Police; and the Auxiliary Customs, Immigration, and Health Police, as well as the Administrative Jurisdiction of Navigation.
To consolidate, develop, and strengthen the leadership of the Argentine Naval Prefecture as a highly professional and strongly motivated organization in its service role to the Nation, fully committed to its mission.
