OCTOBER 11: INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD
In order to recognize the rights and promote the empowerment of girls, the United Nations (UN) proclaimed October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child.
This declaration was approved under Resolution 66/170 by the General Assembly on December 19, 2011, making visible the challenges faced by girls and creating awareness in nations around the world to support and include this issue in their legislation.
On this matter, the UN points out that, "...adolescent girls have the right to a safe, educated and healthy life, not only during these critical formative years, but also as they mature into women. Girls have the potential to change the world, so advocating for their rights is critical to ensuring a more equitable and prosperous future for them."
Under this premise, and in accordance with SDG 5, Red MAMLa works tirelessly to create spaces that promote the integral development of Latin American women, aware that the strategic alliances that have been consolidated are not only for women who work in the maritime sector today, but also for girls and adolescents in the region.
Our hope is to leave a trace to let them know that in the maritime sector there is a great field of work that awaits for them.
