SUCCESSFUL ATTENDANCE AT COFFEE WITH MAMLA - 2021

Another successful meeting and participation of the maritime-port community was registered in this new version of Coffee with MAMLa.

The event, organized by the Latin America Women's Maritime Association with the support of CIP/OAS, IMONGENder Network, IMO's Women in Maritime Program and COCATRAM, was held on August 26, through the Zoom Virtual Platform and had at its peak attendance a total of 300 direct connections, in addition to the participants who joined through the live signal of Red MAMLa YouTube Channel.

The welcoming remarks were given by Paula Pérez, President of Red MAMLa, who appreciated the level of commitment of the maritime community, expressed in the high number of registration requests and participation of attendees. She also remarked the importance of learning about the latest developments in the maritime-legal area at international level, since many of them would have, in the short or medium term, an impact on the legislation of each country in the Latin American region.

Regional experts with vast professional experience gave their presentations, covering interesting topics such as: The London Protocol, Measures to Combat Pollution of Navigable Rivers, ISPS Code, Human Rights of Seafarers on the High Seas, Delimitation of Maritime Areas in International Law, among others.

Each of the speakers, in their respective presentations, emphasized the impact of maritime-legal practice for the region, since the processing of this information plays a fundamental role in the integration and regulation of:

  • the development of foreign trade,
  • the protection of maritime transport,
  • the maintenance of port facilities, and
  • security procedures for the maritime workers.

After the presentations, a question and answer period was held, with the purpose of clarifying some doubts and concerns of the participants.

At the close of the event, which lasted a little over 6 hours, the speakers were recognized for their knowledge and experiences, the attendees for their massive participation and interest, and the organizers were congratulated, particularly the working group of the Legal Committee, who, headed by Liliana Díaz Medina, worked hard to make this Cafe with MAMLa a reality.
