OMI 2023 CAMPAIGN: COMMEMORATION OF SEAFARER DAY

As every year, every June 25 is commemorated the International Day of the Seafarer, a date that recognizes the contribution that seafarers make to the development and growth of the maritime industry, since they not only contribute to the activation of maritime trade and the world economy, but their work also has an impact on the development and growth of society.

For 2023, the International Maritime Organization has chosen "Oceans Worth Protecting" as the campaign theme, in line with this year's World Maritime Theme and the fiftieth anniversary of the MARPOL Convention. In this way, the campaign focuses on visualizing the contributions that seafarers make to the protection of the marine environment.

Due to their professional activity, seafarers spend extensive periods of time at sea, so their contribution to the protection of the marine environment is vital to achieve the objectives set in these matters.

To massify this year's message, the IMO has asked seafarers to share, on social networks, images of the marine environment during their daily activities, emphasizing the message of protection and preservation of the marine environment through the use of the hashtag #OceansWorthProtecting. The central idea is to expose the personal experience in relation to the protection of the marine environment including the technical training received on this subject.

To share their experiences, they are requested to use social platforms where IMO has a user profile, such as: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
