WE ARE MAMLa GUATEMALA: WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP

In compliance with the strategy of the Network of Women Maritime Authorities of Latin America - MAMLA Network, the Member State of Guatemala held the Seminar "Women's Leadership in the Maritime and Port Sector as an Agent of Change", in commemoration of International Women's Day and in accordance with the We Are MAMLa Program. 

The meeting was attended by personnel from the National Maritime Authority, Empresa Portuaria Santo Tomás de Castilla, Empresa Portuaria Quetzal, Terminal Ferroviaria Chiquita, Puerto Barrios, Zona Libre de Industria, Comercio -ZOLIC- and Pahame.

The event began with welcoming remarks by Captain Manuel Eduardo Alvarez Noguera, Commander of the Caribbean Naval Command and opening remarks by Engineer Kevin Gabriel Comas, General Manager of Empresa Portuaria Nacional Santo Tomas de Castilla.

Afterwards, the Permanent Representative of the MAMLa Network of the State of Guatemala, Frigadier Ingrid Jaquelin García, addressed the audience with the lecture "Generalities of the MAMLa Network".

The second presentation of the seminar, "Leadership that Transcends", was given by Ms. Lucila Albeño, Terminal Ferroviaria Puerto Barrios, who highlighted the importance of female leadership, which has a relevant effect within an organization since it strengthens team management, strategy development and cooperative work.

Then, Engineer Otto Wantland gave a presentation on the topic: "Gender perspective in the maritime and port sector in Guatemala". 

The next presentation: "Teamwork as the main leadership tool", was given by Mr. Miguel Angel Santos Godínez, Head of the Port Training Center EMPORNAC, who emphasized the synergy that occurs when there is a balance and optimal coordination between teamwork and leadership, as this allows to achieve excellent results and a successful organizational performance.

The last presentation was given by DEMN Commander Ilse Keren Orellana Bercián, President of the Network of Maritime and Port Women of Central America (REMPORT) who developed the topic "Communication as an effective tool for leadership". 

The closing remarks were in charge of Lieutenant Commander Flor de Maria Caballeros.

The event ended with a technical visit to the Guatemala Naval Shipyard.
