WORLD CLEANUP DAY 2022

In order to raise community awareness about marine and beach pollution, World Beach Cleanup Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of September.

This movement, initiated in 2008 in Estonia, is the world's largest civic action to address the global waste crisis.
Its beginnings were prompted by the alarming increase in non-biodegradable waste generated by people going to the beaches, calling for a 1-day volunteering initiative to participate in a series of local, national and regional clean-up events.

The success of the initiative led other countries to join through the creation of similar events, giving rise to the "Let's Do It! World" Network, which to date has achieved the collaboration of more than 60 million volunteers and the participation of 191 countries around the world.

The 2021 campaign brought together more than 13 million volunteers who collected 53 million kilos of waste and non-biodegradable waste from beaches and coastal areas.

On these results, Heidi Solba, President and Head of the Let's Do It! World Network, highlighted: "... Our network of “let’s-doers” from East to West, and from North to South, is the world’s biggest family—united by their dreams and actions… Lack of certainty on the outside is turned into clarity on the inside—with the understanding that “I can make change happen”. Even by taking minor steps we create a constructive energy for change. With ongoing inspiration toward our global network and partners, we will continue to grow and make change happen!".
