The Executive Committee of the Network of Women of Latin American Maritime Authorities (MAMLa Network) held its fifth session of 2026, during which coordination and organization of the commemorative activities for the International Day for Women in Maritime were addressed. This day is celebrated every May 18 and was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) through Resolution A.1170(32) in 2021.

During the session, guidelines were defined to promote a coordinated regional commemoration, highlighting the role of women in the maritime field and strengthening the visibility of their contributions. Among the agreed initiatives is the development of a recognition campaign on social media, aimed at sharing audiovisual material that reflects the diversity of roles performed by women in the sector, both in operational and management positions.

Additionally, a special recognition will be promoted for women who, during the current year, have taken on positions of high responsibility or professional relevance within Maritime Authorities and the sector in general, with the aim of showcasing these achievements as inspiring examples for the community.

Finally, the MAMLa Network reiterated its willingness to support and promote the activities carried out by Member States and their Maritime Authorities throughout the month of May, in line with its commitment to promoting gender equality and strengthening female leadership in the Latin American maritime sector.
